About Michelle Freeman Counseling
Meet Michelle | Faith-based Counselor in Charlottesville, VA
Michelle’s Approach To Therapy
Using a combination of AEDP, Attachment-Informed Therapy and Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Michelle helps clients process feelings so that they are no longer confusing or overwhelming and shift old patterns of thinking/ways of being relationally. Under this framework, she offers practical tools and addresses a wide variety of clinical needs such as anxiety and depression, stressful life adjustments, grief, trauma and abuse recovery, women’s issues, adult parent/child relationships, sexuality and gender identity. She sees individuals from late adolescence onward.
She particularly enjoys doing this work with college-age individuals and young adults. One’s 20s and early 30s can be a sticky season of navigating adult relationships with parents and friends and new responsibilities and stressors, while also potentially working through some wounds from childhood. Michelle helps you notice and cultivate that inner adult voice of strength that empowers you to build new healthy patterns and boundaries going forward.
Michelle is also available to help clients use their faith values to explore their concerns. The space for this is tailored according to each specific client’s desires.
About Michelle
Michelle finds joy in getting to know the story of each person who sits in front her and in walking next to them. When not in her therapy office, she can be found playing with her furry sidekick, Remy, exploring her creative side with fun art projects, and enjoying the local Cville foodie culture.
While I work with men and women through all kinds of mental health concerns like anxiety and depression, there a few couple therapeutic spaces that I really enjoy working with. If you find yourself in one of these spaces/season, congratulations we will be a great fit!
Credentials
With 10 years of clinical and 10 years of pastoral counseling experience, Michelle received her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Certificate of Graduate Study in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling from Regent University. Her undergraduate work was in Psychology at the University of Virginia (Go HOOS!).

That season of life post-18 where you have (left behind childhood or are startling the gap between childhood and adulthood)
Whether you went on to college or the workforce or still trying to figure out what’s next, this particular season of life is so formative. You are faced with big life decisions and it can sometimes feel overwhelming to find the right path. You are expanding your worldview, becoming critical thinkers, and yet it can feel like you don’t even know yourself. As you enter new friendships and romantic relationships, you’ll face new communication complications, heartaches and even just figuring out what boundaries you need. Forming your adult identity, getting to know your core self and feeling confident in how you move through the world is a space I would love to accompany you. Client’s who spend time in this kind of work often find reduction in their anxiety and depression, greater ability to sort through interrelation conflict, and healing from any wounds that might be holding them back.
